The best way to get to Catalina Island, located 22 miles of the coast of Los Angeles, is to hop on one of Catalina Express’s vessels, from San Pedro, Long Beach or Dana Point. There are many things to do once you arrive. If you are not afraid of heights, try parasailing. You will enjoy great views of the island and the ocean, as well as peace and quiet.


Get a sneak peek with the video above that I filmed with some difficulty. I was not wearing a helmet with a built-in GoPro camera, but rather holding my camera in my hand while I sailed!

Last year when I saw the clip on CNN of chef Bruno Serato for his CNN Heroes nomination, I rushed to the restaurant, the Anaheim White House in Orange County, CA, to interview the philanthropic chef and see how I could help with his foundation Caterina’s Club.

On the road between San Diego and Los Angeles, I got hungry for a burger. And it had to be good because the night before I had dinner at William Bradley’s restaurant Addison at The Grand del Mar, one of’s Top 40 Restaurants in the US.


I decided to stop at Charlie Palmer’s restaurant, DG Burger, at the luxurious South Coast Plaza shopping mall. It was the right choice, as, as its name promised it was damn good!
