I think we are all looking forward to this long Independence Day celebration weekend, so we can relax….

If you are in Los Angeles, I suggest dropping by chef José Andrés’s restaurant The Bazaar at SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills, and sip an Ln2 Caipirinha. Besides drinking it, you will also enjoy its production. There’s a little show produced by the liquid nitrogen poured on the Brazilian cachaca and fresh lime.

Last night, while dining at Scott Conant’s Scarpetta restaurant in Montage Beverly Hills to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Montage Hotels & Resorts, I was sitting next to Charlie Walk. He is the executive vice president of the record label Republic Records (a division of Universal Music Group) whose artists include the late, great Amy Winehouse

Oscar fever has taken over the City of the Angels. Parties are everywhere in restaurants, bars, clubs and at homes. Celebrity Australian chef Luke Mangan was flown in from Sydney to cook in a private home tonight. I tried to learn who he was preparing a feast for and what dishes he had in mind, but the only thing I got was a big kiss. I can’t say I did not like that answer!

 

I run into Mangan at David Myers’ new restaurant Hinoki & the Bird in Century City while I was reviewing the restaurant, one of GAYOT.com Top 10 New & Notable restaurants in Los Angeles.

During the second episode of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Lisa Vanderpump’s new TV show “Vanderpump Rules”, we watched girlfriend/boyfriend Stassi Schroeder and Jax Taylor break up after a two-year relationship. The show is filmed at SUR Restaurant & Lounge, located in West Hollywood, CA. It follows the staff ruled by Lisa Vanderpump, co-owner of the restaurant with her husband Ken Todd and Nathalie & Guillermo Zapata.

 

I recently dined at SUR Restaurant & Lounge. As you can see Stassi (who is a server) posed with Jax (who is a bartender) with me. I can tell you that it did not end up in a cat fight. Are they back together? I don’t know more than you. Only way to find out: watch the next episodes airing on Mondays on Bravo.

The Original Nancy Reagan “Chopped” Salad is back at the Hotel Bel-Air! Introduced in the 80s as the “Spa Salad”, it became Mrs. Reagan’s favorite lunch item, and was named after her circa 2000. The former first lady still comes once a month.

 

But the classic dish disappeared from the menu when the renovated hotel reopened in November 2011. It has been revisited by Wolfgang Puck’s team, and tastes better than ever. Composed of finely chopped romaine, baby gem lettuce, diced tomato, grilled Jidori chicken, diced turkey bacon, avocado and Point Reyes blue cheese tossed in homemade lemon vinaigrette dressing, it is a full meal by itself. It’s not just for ladies who lunch; even businessmen order it!

 

More lunch menu news: the return of Thai style chicken salad and the Japanese BBQ salmon salad, and the arrival of signature pizza and sandwiches.
